Four events designed to start a reflection on themes, protagonists, set-ups of the plays of the next INDA season under the guidance of several international scholars of the ancient.

Guido Paduano
University of Pisa
Guido Paduano is‘ Professor Emeritus’ of Classical Philology at the University of Pisa. Director of “Dionysus”, the ancient theatre magazine of the INDA Foundation, awarded with the“Golden Aeschylus” in 2021, he has studied above all the Greek epic and the ancient Greek and Latin theatre, to which he has dedicated countless commented translations, specialist studies and monographs on prestigious national and international publishing houses. Among his last works, Theatre. Character and human condition (Rome, Carocci, 2020). He will tell us about the theological problem of Aeschylus’ ‘ Prometheus bound’.

Jeremy Lefkowitz
Swarthmore College, Philadelphia, PA
Jeremy B. Lefkowitz is Associate Professor of Classics at Swarthmore College (Philadelphia, PA). Rome Prize Fellow of the American Academy in Rome (FAAR ’16) and Senior Associate Member of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens (2020-2021), he deals in particular with ancient fairy tales and Greek comedy, Aristophanes in particular, on which he has written numerous essays in international venues. He will introduce us to this comedy, staged for the first time at the Greek Theatre in Syracuse, which deals with the very current theme of peace with the usual comic inventiveness of Aristophanes.

Carmen González Vázquez
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid
Professor of Latin Philology at the Universidad Autónoma in Madrid and professor of theatre and cinema in the Master in Performing Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, Carmen González Vázquez has been dedicated for several years to the study of ancient theatre and its scenic, literary and cinematographic reception, as well as the study of Latin language and literature. She is an effective member of the Stage Directors Association and the International Association of Theatre Critics. She has published more than thirty works in the field of theatre and essays and monographs in venues of international relevance, including the Akal Dictionary of Latin Theatre. Lexicon, dramaturgy, scenography (Madrid, AKAL, 20142). She will tell us about the myth of Medea in the cultural history of the West, up to its twentieth-century cinematographic transpositions.

Piero Boitani
University of Rome La Sapienza – Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei
Piero Boitani is Professor of Comparative Literature at the School of Advanced Studies of the University of Rome La Sapienza. Member of the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei and President of the Lorenzo Valla Foundation, anglicist, medievalist, Dantist, comparatist, scholar of myth and classical culture, in 2002 he won the Feltrinelli Prize of the Accademia dei Lincei for Literary Criticism and in 2016 the Balzan Prize. He will talk about the magnetic charm and metamorphosis through the time of the figure of Ulysses, to whom he dedicated the essays The shadow of Ulysses (Bologna, il Mulino, 20122), On the footsteps of Ulysses (Bologna, il Mulino, 20072), The great story of Ulysses (Bologna, il Mulino, 2016) and the congress, organized by him at the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome (1996), “Ulysses: archaeology of modern man”.
